Aphai Temple

The virgin Goddess Aphai (akin to the Goddess Athena)
sought sanctuary in a pine grove high on a mountain
top. While being pursued by a local fisherman, Aphai
(which means invisible) fled towards the woods of
Artemis and disappeared. The Islanders dedicated a
temple to Her, which was built in that same pine
grove. Women today may still access this tranquil
haven seeking calm and solace.
